A Real Conversation

This was the hardest essay I have written to date. This doesn't mean it is my best essay, but it does mean I am extremely proud of it.

The assignment: Record a 30 minute conversation, transcribe it, and add in your personal narrative. The conversation was suppose to elicit a personal conflict that caused a change in my personal beliefs, thoughts, or actions. WHAT?

I really struggled with this essay because I felt like I had to create an artificial "change," which seemed ingenuine to me. However, after staring at the blank screen for hours, several office hour visits, and many deleted drafts, I figured it out. I did not need to make up a change, I needed to connect the recorded conversation to a past experience and how it conflicts with my beliefs.

After finding a past experience, my fingers began tapping away at the keyboard.

This essay is about what it means to me to have a real conversation. The topic of the two conversations discussed in the essay is religion, a topic that frequently engages me.

The importance of listening is delved into because without mutual engagaement, are you having a real conversation?

Give-and-Take.
