Why I Write
Sophomore year I was challenged by the prompt: why do you write?
This was one of the first assignments in the Minor in Writing course, and I could not have been more nervous.
I applied to the minor because I wanted to improve my writing skills, not because I was necessarily passionate about the act. But, who would admit that to their new writing minor peers and professor?
I did.
I chose to share this work because it was the first essay that made me feel vulnerable. It may have been easier for me to make up some foofy reason why I write, but I didn't. I let myself be honest with my class, my professor, and myself.
